SE Group Improves Billing Processing and Reduces IT Costs by Moving to the Cloud

Collaboration is a hallmark of 25-person SE Group’s success in transforming outdoor landscapes that enhance communities around the globe. For more than 60 years, the firm’s integrated team of planners, landscape architects, and environmental experts works with public and private sector clients to deliver extraordinary projects through strategy, permitting, planning and design.

Deltek Vision has supported SE Group’s dispersed client-facing teams since 2007, and CFO George Schmidt hopped on the opportunity to migrate Vision to the cloud in 2015 to further streamline operations. “At the time, it was a decision driven by an economics,” says Schmidt. “We wanted to eliminate the overhead of servers and personnel costs of maintenance duties in addition to freeing up IT for more valuable activities.”

He quickly adds that Vision in the cloud keeps SE Group’s consultants connected no matter where their international travels take them. “As long as they have an internet connection, they can submit timesheets, review projects and process invoices, all of which keep our workflow humming,” Schmidt says. “We’re able to get monthly invoicing completed in less than a week after month end, which is a huge win.”

Vision in the cloud earns a perfect score in Schmidt’s book, especially since the system has never been down. “Of course, having a responsive partner like CCG in the wings gives us an extra layer of comfort,” he says.

The firm is looking forward to completing its journey to a paperless operation with its impending upgrade to Deltek Vantagepoint. “We are really looking forward to the new interface and dashboards and additional support for opportunities and proposals,” Schmidt says.

What advice does Schmidt offer to organizations migrating Vision to the cloud? “I’m not sure why any firm wouldn’t want to be in the cloud. It’s hard to imagine our firm without all those advantages.”
